ASHRAE Run is a running event held on 1st November 2015 and organized by the ASHRAE Malaysia Student Chapter of Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). ASHRAE, which stands for American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, is an organization dedicated to the advancement of indoor-environment-control technology in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) industry. Approximately 50,000 professionals from more than 100 nations with Green Building and HVAC&R backgrounds are registered under ASHRAE, and over 5,000 students have benefited from being part of the ASHRAE Student Chapters, including students of UM and UTAR.

Besides promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle between career and recreational activities, the run serves as an initiative to make the public aware of the ASHRAE society. It was also a platform for the students to foster bonds with the professionals as there was a lineup of booths from major sponsors at the ASHRAE Fair, which is likened to a mini career fair. Students used the opportunity to get to know potential employers in a more in-depth look, while the sponsors used it as a medium to share information about their company and to scout for talent.

At 7.30am in the morning, the run was successfully flagged off in front of Dewan Tunku Canselor UM. Approximately 600 people turned out on the day, with participation not only limited to university students but also members of the public. Female participants ran 5 km around the perimeters of UM while the male participants ran a mighty 10 km. Daikin was the sole platinum sponsor for the event. Acson also joined the bandwagon by being a gold sponsor.

Once everyone has crossed the finish line, the event rounded up with Mr. Lim Soon Kiong, the Operating Manager of Daikin Research and Development Malaysia humbly presenting a mock cheque of RM10,000 to benefit the ASHRAE Student Chapter. The run winners were presented with attractive prizes and there was even a lucky draw prize giveaway. Everyone present enjoyed mingling with each other and hopping from one booth to the other at the ASHRAE Fair while being entertained by a live band performance. The event ended approximately at noon with the objectives well achieved.
