For the second time running, Daikin Malaysia became the platinum sponsor for the annually-held ASHRAE Run. Held during the Deepavali weekend on 30th October 2016, the run was successfully organized by the ASHRAE Malaysia Student Chapter of Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

ASHRAE, which stands for American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, is an organization dedicated to the advancement of indoor-environment-control technology in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) industry. Approximately 50,000 professionals from more than 100 nations with Green Building and HVAC&R backgrounds are registered under ASHRAE and over 5,000 students have benefited from being part of the ASHRAE Student Chapters, including students of UM and UTAR.

The modus operandi was similar to that of last year, with a tweak in the running routes, which was rumored to be slightly more challenging. A total of 1,031 participants registered for the different run categories – 10 km Male Run, 10 km Female Run and 5 km Fun Run. This year, besides being an event sponsor, Daikin Malaysia also sponsored 40 run tickets for the employees, so the fun was shared all around.

After a warm up session at the UM Old Bus Terminal, the participants were flagged off at 7 am and ran the routes along the scenic UM campus. Those who weren’t running took advantage of the fun and games at the Company Fair. Students got to know the sponsors better while having fun at the booths, and the companies used it as a recruitment platform. Also present was Acson, our sister company and also a repeated gold sponsor. The event ended around 11 am with a lineup of speeches, performances, lucky draw session, prize giving ceremony and a mock cheque presentation by Ms. Ho Much Jia, Head of Department, Global Procurement to the organizing committee.
