Daikin Commemorates a Century of Excellence and 50 Years in Malaysia

Daikin’s 100th anniversary was commemorated alongside our 50 years in Malaysia celebration on July 19, 2024, on a massive scale. The event, held at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) Shah Alam, was a grand affair attended by 5,500 employees from Daikin Malaysia and its subsidiaries, and broadcasted “live” to those who could not attend the session in-person.

The evening was graced by distinguished guests and past leaders, including Mr. Yoshihiro Mineno, Mr. Fang Yuan, Mr. Hitoshi Jinno, Mr. Hirokazu Hirao, Mr. Akinori Atarashi, Mr. Shogo Ando, and Mr. Ching Kim Huat. Furthermore, the evening featured spectacular performances by Daikin Malaysia employees and representatives from each subsidiary who showcased their unique talents and were among the highlights of the celebration.

Reflecting the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, the celebration was marked by the presence of not only Japanese expatriates and Malaysian staff, but also employees from Nepal, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, all of whom have played pivotal roles in Daikin Malaysia’s growth. To mark the occasion, traditional dances and spectacular songs were performed by a number of local and foreign employees as well.

According to Daikin Malaysia’s COO, Toshiharu Tsurumaru, this event is designed to collectively celebrate the joy of reaching a remarkable 100-year and 50-year milestone. Tsurumaru also highlighted that the occasion serves as a platform to celebrate Daikin Malaysia’s uniqueness and is the perfect opportunity to honour long-serving employees and their families, which we feted for dedicating 40 years of service to the company.

Under the theme “Timeless Traditions, Future Visions,” the gala showcased a blend of traditional attire with a futuristic twist. This theme served as a poignant reminder for employees to honour past achievements while embracing future challenges with courage and innovation.

Other highlights from the event include special appearance of FA Selangor football players, a futuristic designed memory tunnel that showcased the past history of both Daikin Industries, Limited of Japan and Daikin Malaysia, and many photo and video opportunities to remember the event for all employees present that day.
The night concluded with a symbolic gesture: a message from Daikin Malaysia’s current leaders was sealed in a time capsule, destined to be opened by future leaders two decades from now, in 2044, serving as an aspiration for the future leaders to reach even greater heights for Daikin Malaysia.
