Selling to Give Back.

Just before the week-long factory shutdown for Hari Raya, the Company organized a sale, from which all the proceeds were promised to a charity organization. It was the last week of work and the last week of Ramadhan, so the mood was light and employees were in high spirits of giving (and spending).

The sale went on for two days, from 29^th to 30^th June 2016 at our in-house cafeteria and the items on sale were employee birthday gifts from past years. Items such as towels, water bottles and travel bags which had the OYL stamp were sold at a special price. It was a win-win situation for all as the employees get to enjoy the high-quality items at a discounted price while also being charitable. The support and reaction towards the charity sale was a warm and humbling one. Employees, regardless of department and designation contributed what little they had in a big way for this noble cause.

In the month of Ramadhan, where food is scarce, we are able to empathize with those who are stricken with hunger and find it hard to go about their life because they are chronically hungry. Therefore, the charity organization of choice to receive all of the collection is Charity Right, a Malaysian-based international food aid. Charity Right provides raw materials to the hungry in schools, orphanages and refugee camps in countries like Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sudan, Indonesia and India. In Malaysia, Charity Right has contributed to refugee camps, homeless shelters, single mothers’ homes and the Orang Asli communities.

On 4^th August 2016, a small cheque-giving ceremony was held between the Company and representatives from Charity Right. As promised, all of the proceeds from the sale, amounting to RM12,575.10 changed hands on the day. It is hoped that this humble contribution will go a long way with the community in which we operate in.
